Northwood resident and Coe-Brown senior Amelia Brackett found inspiration in a tiny library and the trails she has walked in the area her whole life. Her inspiration and hard work is now Barrington’s gain, as a new tiny library has been erected at the Goodwill Conservation Area and home of the popular Winnie-the-Pooh Trail.
Her senior project involved the construction support of her parents and grandfather, collecting book donations from the community, and coordinating with the Barrington Conservation Commission and the Southeast Land Trust (SELT) to make the library a reality.
When the question of where and how, her project expanded to include Barrington Selectperson and Conservation Commissioner Dan Ayer to interface with the owner of an onsite retired utility pole, Consolidated, to find a strong home for the library. In the spirit of Reduce/Recycle/Reuse, the pole is now home to collection of adult reading, teen and children’s books, including some books dedicated to A.A. Milne’s woods-dwelling bear, Pooh.
If you would like to leave a book or take a book, the site is open dawn to dusk. If you would like to leave a message for Amelia (or Pooh), a journal inside the library would be a great place to leave your message. You can wish her well, as she works on the next tiny library for Northwood.
