Cullen Woods Open Space
“My grandmother started walking five miles a day when
she was sixty. She’s ninety-three today and we don’t
know where the hell she is.” ~Ellen DeGeneres
In 2015 the 8.8-acre Cullen Woods Open Space was deeded to the town as conservation land, part of the subdivision and development of the adjoining houses on Smoke St. At the time of this writing the property has not been developed by the town for recreational use.
There is a deeded access to the open space via a 15’ wide access easement from Smoke St., but at this point it is undeveloped. Unfortunately, it is mostly wet and probably unusable for a trail.
The principal natural feature of the property is a pretty little pond – an old farm pond – right next to the trail. It provides habitat for an abundance of frogs and other amphibians.
The property also abuts other town-owned land accessed from Redemption Rd. That land is not officially conserved, but it is part of a trail network through the Cullen Woods and adjoining properties. The Trails Committee hopes to develop this access in the future.
