Twelve get in touch with their inner Poohs
On Saturday April 12, an even dozen folks with a wide range of ages (but all young at heart) helped to design a planned "Winnie the Pooh" trail on the Goodwill Conservation Area in Barrington. The Barrington Conservation Commission and Natural Heritage Committee sponsored the event, one of a series of hikes which have been offered frequently since August 2011.
This trail, which should be completed this summer, is designed to get young children (and their parents) into the woods. There they will be able to enjoy some of the natural features of this beautiful parcel of conserved land while following a short (~one mile) trail with signs indicating the way to places such as 'Piglet's House,' 'Where the Woozle Wasn't,' 'Eeyore's Gloomy Place,' and other references from the classic AA Milne children's books.
Saturday's hikers identified a number of possible locations for these places while figuring out the rough route of the trail.
The 156-acre Goodwill Conservation Area includes Richardson Pond, and was acquired by the town in 2007 using money from the town's conservation fund and a generous donation of part of its value by former owner Carolyn Goodwill. It is protected from development by a conservation easement held by the Strafford Rivers Conservancy.
The next in the series of hikes in Barrington will be a bird walk at the Warren Farm on May 12.

Get to know Barrington’s Trails Bird Walk
on the Warren Farm
Treat mom to an early bird walk - or let her sleep in while you go! At 7 AM on Mother's Day, May 12, the Barrington Conservation Commission and Natural Heritage Committee invite you to come for a bird walk on the Warren Farm.
Naturalist and bird expert Scott Young will lead us. This is prime time for both migrants and local birds in their breeding season, and the wide variety of habitats on the Warren Farm is ideal for seeing many species - Scott has documented some 150 species on the property in the last several years! The farm property has been extensively managed for wildlife habitat in the last several years, and it is really paying off.
The number of birds we'll see is of course weather dependent, but the only guarantee is if you don't come and look, you won't see anything.
Bring a pair of binoculars and a bird book if you can. Ticks will be out, so take necessary precautions.
The Warren Farm is at the end of Warren Road, which is about two miles west of the Lee Traffic Circle on Route 4.
RSVP if you can to John: crawford@metrocast.net, 664-5974.
